“Provide Peace of Mind!”

In February 2008, we asked a group of real estate professionals what was the one thing home inspectors did to add value to the process of buying and selling homes. The majority of responses indicated they appreciate how a home inspector’s work can assure potential buyers about the home they may purchase and give a perspective on when issues are major or just part of owning a home. Some specific comments included:

They provide the Buyer with some peace of mind when purchasing or offer valuable information that allow the buyer to decide to proceed with the transaction.”

“I think home inspectors help add value by…making them feel comfortable with what they’re paying based on the condition of the home that they’re buying.”

“Inspectors are most valuable because they provide the ‘nuts and bolts’ report to buyers who subsequently use the information to make sound decisions.”

“…help assure the buyer they are purchasing a solid home.”

“Kentucky home inspectors add value to the buying/selling process by providing the extra piece of the puzzle. This integral piece being the pat on back that says, ‘you made a good choice in this home and your purchase is a good one.”

“…the greatest value added is that the buyers have peace of mind in the buying process. It keep ‘buyer’s remorse’ at bay because they get the reaffirmation that they have made a good decision…”

“As a Realtor, I appreciate it when a home inspector points out positive things about a home along with the issues that need to be addressed.”

“The best thing a home inspector can do is, after all the issues have been pointed out and provided there is nothing too major, say to the client, “you’re getting a really good house here. That little bit of reassurance can make a really big difference.”

“…telling them which issues are important and which (ones) are simply typical for the age of the house or (are) cosmetic.”

“Home inspectors provide a professional, third party opinion of the condition of the home…Buyers need this information to make an informed decision.”

“…you all take the time to calm a nervous buyer down by reassuring them that the house is not going to fall in and you also point out the good things about the home not just the things that need attention.”

“I think the greatest thing that home inspectors do to add value is the obvious. They take the ‘buyer beware’ aspect out of the process for the home buyer…They can rest a little easier with the knowledge of the home before they move forward with the purchase.”
